Introduction
The high school DCT/OJT education program is an academic program that combines a classroom curriculum with on-the-job work experience in the business community. This educational program is beneficial to all students and is respected and recognized by companies throughout the United States including the state of Florida. Finally, the DCT/OJT program is a partnership that involves the high school, the student, the parent, the employer, and the teacher. The DCT/OJT teacher/coordinator and the On-the-Job Training supervisor share instruction and supervision of the students which results in a strong partnership that is beneficial for the student, school and the local business community. I am a former DCT/OJT student who has benefited immeasurably from my experience in the program.
Students

What is the purpose of DCT?
The purpose of this program is to provide students the opportunity of acquiring the necessary human relations skills, work ethic, and common knowledge required for successful employment and for selection of a career plan that will guide the transition from school-to-work. Concurrently, the student will be engaged in paid, supervised part-time employment as a means of gaining experience in a real work environment in compliance with the Child Labor Law established by the U.S. Department of Labor for the Work Experience and Career Exploration (8300100).
What are the requirements?
A student may not enroll in a Work Experience class without concurrent enrollment in Work Experience-OJT (8301650). Also, a student may not enroll in Work Experience-OJT (8301650) without previous or concurrent enrollment in a Work Experience class. Each student enrolled in the Work Experience 1, 2, 3, or 4 courses may earn one credit. A minimum of 1 credit for on-the-job employment experiences may be earned for each year the student is enrolled in Work Experience-OJT.
When reaching the "On-the-Job" portion of the program, are the students supervised?
The student must be paid for work performed and must be directly supervised. Supervised on-the-job activities may be continued as a summer learning experience without classroom instruction for students who previously participated successfully in the in-school and on-the-job instructional activities.

This course is designed to enable each student to demonstrate competencies in a specific career and to demonstrate legal and ethical behavior within the role and scope of job responsibilities through a realistic, on-the-job training experience. An individualized training plan is developed and utilized to ensure that training is provided which will develop the necessary competencies/skills in order for the student to become competent in the occupation for which he/she is being trained.
