A STUDENT'S PERSPECTIVE:
The Engineering Academy at DeLand High School is a new program offering a variety of activities and an opportunity at hands-on learning. It is designed with two courses that coincide with each other.
The physics portion is called Principles of Technology and is instructed by Ms. Linden. In this class we learn the theory and the physics required to gain a better understanding of the equipment and the capabilities of the equipment in the engineering portion of the academy. We cover each concept in a mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal if it applies. So far we've studied force, work, rate, and are now studying resistance. Next semester we will finish resistance and cover energy, power, and force transformers.
The students apply this knowledge to the devices in the Engineering Technology class which is instructed by Mr.
Policke. I have greatly enjoyed the academy so far and look forward to learning much more about a field that interests me. We learn at our own pace and the harder you work, the more you learn. I have truly learned so much more than I had ever expected.
