Lighting and sound equipment in the DeLand High School Auditorium is operated by Theatre Tech, a group of trained student technicians. Since no one else is permitted access to the tech booth, you will need to book Theatre Tech for you auditorium functions.

The charge for Theatre Tech services is $6.50, per student employed. $5.25 of this amount is paid directly to the student technicians, so you have every right to expect professional work. The remainder helps supplement the cost of lamps, gels, and equipment replacement.

To help us serve you well in the least possible amount of student hours, we ask that you follow certain procedures.

PROCEDURES

As soon as you have firm plans for the nature of your production, schedule a short mandatory meeting through the Theatre Tech sponsor ( Clifford Scarborough ). There will be no charge for this organizational meeting, during which we will review auditorium procedures, outline your plans, and work out some details.

If special lighting is desired, there will be a per hour charge for changing focus and/or changing gels on instruments. Unless you request more, we will require two rehearsals for our Theatre Tech people to become ready for your performance. Warning: We cannot be prepared for a performance if we have not seen a legitimate rehearsal. The closer your dress rehearsals are to the actual show, the better. Anytime you require the use of instrument lighting or sound, you will need to have a Theatre Tech student present. We have a large follow spot available for use. Since this equipment is not delicate if properly handled and relatively easy to operate, you may schedule a member of your group to operate the spot, or you may request a Theatre Tech member to do so. Your per hour charge for the other Theatre Tech workers will be $7.25, due to the high cost of replacement lamps on the follow spot. We have a small follow spot available for use. Since the equipment IS delicate you must request a Theatre Tech member to operate it. Due to the high cost of replacement lamps add $.50 to the per student hour charge. SGA rents a smoke machine for $20 a show. This is to supplement the cost of purchasing the unit and to buy fluid for it. The billing is done at the same time as the Theatre Tech Time Sheet. See Clifford Scarborough for operating instructions and available. Theatre Tech members will have a time sheet, in which they initial that they were present and can adjust the times. At the end of the show you will receive a Time Billing Sheet, with the workers complete information, and times that they worked. All the sponsor needs to do is sign and return to Clifford Scarborough. Use of the piano is scheduled through Theatre Tech. There is a $20 fee for using the piano. This fee covers the cost of tuning the instrument. Use of the chorus room is scheduled through Theatre Tech. See Clifford Scarborough or Jane Grove. Videotaping is not done by Theatre Tech. Contact Video Productions. Please do not ask Tech members to work for free. Virtually none of them have jobs outside of their Tech work, otherwise they would not be available for your show. The pre-show walk-through will establish the condition of the auditorium prior to use by your club or group. Damage done to the auditorium or the equipment will be charged to you club/group, per the fee schedule. (see below) The reminders to share with students form explains how to use the backstage equipment. The intention of this form is to help you put on a successful show. Smooth shows are usually better shows. The post-show walk through is when we verify that everything has been returned to its proper place and is not damaged. All paint, hair-dryers, sets, and decorations must be removed within 24 hours. Contact Clifford Scarborough at least two weeks before your scheduled event. If you wait until the last minute, Theatre Tech may not be available and your event could be canceled. Schedule your rehearsal for Tech between the hours of 3:30p to 9:00p only. (school nights). Tech will turn off and pack up at 9:30p promptly. It takes 30 mins. to pack the equipment up, and I can not and will not ask my Techies to work past 10:00p.
