the DeLand High School Avant Garde Dance Team 2010-2011 Season:
Thank you to all of our candidates for your interest in becoming a
member of Avant Garde & for your commitment to the audition process this
past week! We had 41 candidates audition and I am EXTREMELY
PROUD of every candidate’s effort and hard work throughout the
week! Below is the list of candidate numbers of the students who scored
amongst the top 17 selected for next year’s team. Congratulations to
everyone for a fantastic job!

encourage you all to continue your pursuit of dance & I am happy to
provide you with individual feedback to work on for next year if you are
interested in re-auditioning! Becoming involved with extracurricular
activities like sports and school clubs can help enrich your high school
experience. Follow your dreams artistically and soar academically as we

Deland High School's Avant Garde dates back
to 1969 when
they first graced the stage under
the artistic direction of Virginia Sharpe. Since then, Avant Garde has developed a long-standing tradition of students who pride themselves on discipline, dedication, and determination in the performing arts and academic arenas.
Avant Garde is an active club at DHS and can be seen performing at various school activities and community events. Members must maintain a 2.5 GPA, have exemplary conduct, and be open to performing a variety
of dance styles including: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Ethnic Dance, and Hip-hop. Becoming a member of Avant Garde is more than just belonging to a club; it is a year long commitment to the art & love of dance. Our auditioned group meets 2-3 days a week after school to rehearse and choreograph for upcoming performances. Members of Avant Garde are recognized by the faculty and their peers as hard working, motivated, and talented individuals who continue to uphold the superior image left by former Avant Garde alumni.
Through team work and dedication to the artistic process, Avant Garde continues to evolve bringing new perspectives to Deland's dance community. Together these unique young dancers continue to strive for greatness while promoting school spirit and their Bulldog Pride!
