Avant Garde
Deland High School's Avant Garde dates back
to 1969 when they first graced the stage
under the artistic direction of Virginia
Sharpe. Since then, Avant Garde has developed
a long-standing tradition of students who
pride themselves on discipline, dedication,
and determination in the performing arts
and academic arenas.
Avant Garde is an active club at DHS and
can be seen performing at various school
activities and community events. Members
must maintain a 2.5 GPA, have exemplary
conduct, and be open to performing a variety
of dance styles including: Ballet, Modern,
Jazz, Ethnic Dance, and Hip-hop. Becoming
a member of Avant Garde is more than just
belonging to a club; it is a year long commitment
to the art & love of dance. Our auditioned
group meets 2-3 days a week after school
to rehearse and choreograph for upcoming
performances. Members of Avant Garde are
recognized by the faculty and their peers
as hard working, motivated, and talented
individuals who continue to uphold the superior
image left by former Avant Garde alumni.
Through team work and dedication to the
artistic process, Avant Garde continues
to evolve bringing new perspectives to Deland's
dance community. Together these unique young
dancers continue to strive for greatness
while promoting school spirit and their
Bulldog Pride! |
