Due to unforeseen damage and aftermath caused by Hurricane Matthew moving through the area, we have had to reschedule the date of our homecoming parade to Friday, October 21st. The county has experienced immense damage from the hurricane, and thousands are still without power. The City of DeLand is working to clean the city and make it safe for its residents. We exhausted all resources to keep the homecoming dates the same. The school board closed all schools Monday and Tuesday and suspended all extracurricular activities. Due to these changes we do not have the required time that is needed to prepare for the parade this Friday. While moving the parade is an inconvenience to all it allows the spirit of homecoming week to maintain DeLand’s high caliber of homecoming traditions.
However, we will be making this Friday all about the alumni. We understand that plans have been made and would like to extend an invitation for alumni to still participate in the parade that are able to do so.
The "Alumni Tea" will still be held on Friday, October 14th, at 9:00 am in the cafeteria and will be followed by an "Alumni Barbecue" at Earl Brown Park from 2pm-4pm. We will have food, drinks, and music for you to enjoy, followed by an Alumni Game at Spec Martin Stadium.
