Communications Academy

The Communications Academy at DeLand High School will provide students with rigorous, hands-on, real-world experiences to prepare them for the industry. Students will have a comprehensive overview of communications in which they can then choose a path to continue throughout all four years of high school. These paths include Digital Design, Video Production, and Journalism. In all paths, students will participate in “market-ready” activities which include industry certification exams in the appropriate courses.  Students may also have the opportunity for placement in the field with various internship hosts.

Engineering Academy

The Engineering Academy is an exciting opportunity for our students to explore the many fields of engineering. The Academy emphasizes math, science, computer, and communication skills, while giving students experience with problem solving, logical sequencing, presentation skills, and organizational skills. Students gain hands-on experience with robotics, computer numerically controlled machines and other industry specific equipment. Students are required to fill out an application and must meet minimum requirements of at least 2.5 GPA, "C" in Algebra I, good attendance and discipline records.

Culinary Academy

The Culinary Academy provides real-world experience in a commercial kitchen environment. Students will learn basic to advanced competencies in the food service industry including employability skills, operational procedures, nutrition, safety, sanitation, and storage procedures. Students will become fluent in cooking terminology, food measurements, food preparation and regulations governing the food industry. Curriculum also includes customer relations, cost control, inventory procedures, record keeping, and culinary related scenarios. Students are required to fill out an application and must maintain minimum requirements of at least 2.5 GPA, good attendance and good discipline records.

 

Academy of Agriculture Business & Leadership

The Academy of Agriculture Business & Leadership at DeLand High School will provide students with firsthand learning and real-world experiences through rigorous and relevant project-based instruction that will prepare students for the ever growing and evolving agriculture and business industries. Students will engage in an extensive overview of world agriculture, principles of business, leadership, and management. Students will be immersed in courses that will prepare them for future careers in business, leadership, management, as well as the agriculture field. Students who apply and are accepted into the DeLand High School ABL Academy will take part in a unique learning environment that will give them a clear career path and focus on post-secondary and workforce preparation.
