In the Early Childhood Education program students learn the history of school-age childcare, childcare rules and regulations, safe learning environments, stages of child development, developmentally appropriate practices and communication skills, principles of child nutrition and technology use, infant-toddler developmentally appropriate guidance activities, and observing and recording methods from the DCF 40-hour Introductory Childcare Training coursework. Students learn child development theories and how to create developmentally appropriate curriculum, as well as an understanding of the importance of professionalism, relationship skills, community resources and communicating with children’s families.
